Born for barns

Working in collaboration with Bergholt Building Services, we were pleased to supply over 50 units to bring about the creation of these superb modern offices. These traditional Essex farm buildings have been expertly converted into light commercial units, with an appeal to the modern business.

The location, as you can see is rural, but with close access to major roads, and the site is relatively exposed, so the insulation properties were a consideration. Constructed in the local vernacular, the walls are predominantly soft red stocks, mixed with traditional black feather edge cladding and slate dressing to the roofing.

Working with BBS, we selected Smarts Alitherm 300 range, which have profiles suitable for residential and light commercial applications. Importantly, they allowed the look and feel of traditional casement windows, but retain the inspiration and elegance of timber products, or equally of contemporary style windows designed for modern homes or offices. Attracting businesses to let the units will be vital, so kerb appeal is a major consideration, along with low maintenance and durability.

The units are finished in RAL black 9005 matt and complimented with black furniture.

The doors are Visofold 1000, again from Smarts, which are an excellent commercial option. Visofold doors have the option of either low thresholds for unimpeded, easy access, or rebated thresholds that offer improved weather resistance.

The strength of the aluminium has facilitated tall picture windows, unobstructed by glazing bars, giving a clean modern look to the units. Gable glazing above the doors has enabled the property to retain its character whilst also allowing a full flood of light.
