Windows, Doors, Bifolds and a Roof Lantern!

These homeowners have planned everything in perfect co-ordination

Building from scratch is a rare privilege that so many of us dream of and yet so few of us manage to achieve. It’s reasonable to assume that one of the allures of a self-build is the ability to see something through from start to finish with choices made entirely by you rather than living with the legacy of owners past.

This project was a delight for us, and yet in some respects a challenge. The homeowners sourced no less than seven (you heard right, seven!) different glazing products from us: windows in UPVC, Bifold doors (two different kinds) a side door, a composite front door, a single door and a roof lantern (phew!). Making these varying suppliers tie in is no mean feat but we’re sure you’ll agree that the end result is very pleasing to look at with each and every aspect tying-in with the other perfectly.

Starting at the front, we’re welcomed by a stylish composite door from Solidor (did we tell you we carry the widest range in the region?) with a timber finish which compliments the oak beams around the front porch.

The front bay windows are UPVC from Duraflex with a woodgrain finish and glazing bars to add to the country character. The woodgrain finish bears close scrutiny; for all intents and purposes it has the beauty of real timber with none of the upkeep! The muted tones work wonderfully with the local stock brickwork.

Moving through to the kitchen diner we are presented with Origin three-leaf bifolds, leaving that all-important traffic door for convenient access to the garden, this time finished in a powder coated grey to add to the natural palette.

Looking up, the light streams in through an Atlas Roof Lantern with Activ Blu Glass to reduce solar gain and glare whilst maximising the available light and adding a sense of height to the room.

At the end of the garden we find the ubiquitous ‘man-cave’, clad in cedar and finished with a minimalist single door from Solidor and a set of three-leaf bifolds, this time from Smarts, though still finished in consistent RAL colours.

We love this project, everything ties in perfectly, from soup to nuts; a perfect family space, built for cooking, living, entertaining and relaxing!
